Saturday school ramblings.....

School's already been busy for me and I'm only ending my 2nd week of the semester.  Although school's been keeping me busy, I do enjoy going to my classes.  I look forward to sitting in our literacy and writing class because we do these journals every class meeting.  One assignment that I think everyone really focused on was creating a poem.  Not just any poem, but a poem about where you came from, where your roots are.  I thought I'd share mines with you all.  Hope you enjoy!

Where I’m From by: me :)

I come from piping hot pandesals at 5:30a.m.
Paired with a steaming bowl of arrozcaldo
I come from jeepneys, tricycles, and railroad barbecue stands
From roasted corn to green mangos on a stick

I come from fiestas and noche buenas
Where lumpias and chicharon swim in vinegar
I come from adobo, lechon, and pancit
From loud chatter to roaring laughter

I come from the ocean; swimming, surfing, splashing
I come from the sand; building, digging, being lazy
I come from musubis, sushi, the manapua van, and Zippy’s
From 25 cent bus fares to 50 cent ice creams

I come from creativity
Yards of fabric and spools of thread
I come from music
From church hymns to family karaoke parties that end well past 12am

I come from a saving grace
An overflowing love
I come from forgiveness and mercy
I am from God

I come from a rib
Who found me at Kailua Beach
I’m from “till death do us part”
From the engagement ring, the wedding ring
A little suffering, and a lot of enduring

I come from dreams of motherhood
Subtle cries, clinging arms, big brown eyes
Where her toothless grin and silly expressions melt my heart
From our yelling matches, to our whispered “I love you”s

I come from opportunity, rooted in humble beginnings
I come from my father’s heart, my mother’s hope
I come first from a line of three
A living legacy
