Happy Friday everyone!! So, I just want to share with you our cloth diapering experience. I decided to go with cloth diapers after I read about how many disposable diapers go in landfills every year. My siblings and I were cloth diapered, and so I wanted to extend that experience to my little one and as a mom.
We started to cloth diapering when Rachel was 6 months old. I bought 3 diapers to test it out. I didn't know that there were so many different types of cloth diapers. I've always thought that I'll be using those flat, birdseye cloth diapers and pins. Little did I know, they were fashioned just like disposables. I use mostly pocket diapers. Microfiber soakers are used to "stuff" the pockets. I love how Rachel stays dry even if her diaper is full. I think the only real inconvenience is "#2".
There have been a few leaks but we haven't had a total blowout. When I use new soakers, the maximum absorbency isn't reached until after a couple of washes. The leaks only happen when I have a new soaker and Rachel is sitting in her car seat or if I don't immediately change her. Despite all that, I'm pretty happy with the cloth diapers.
Even though we are using cloth diapers, I still buy disposable diapers and use those only at night because Rachel is a proven heavy wetter. I have tried limiting Rachel's liquid intake before bed but it hasn't worked and she wakes up wet. I have also tried doubling up her soakers but it didn't work either. Maybe our next bun will completely be cloth diapers (hopefully). I forgot to mention that these diapers can be used up to 3 children when washed and cared for properly. I do take great care in washing them so, hopefully, reusing them for the next baby will be no problem. They also have a good resell value and a lot of moms are looking for a great bargain. It
Cloth diapers can cost a lot per diaper. The cost of the diapers I have in my stash, range from $11-17 each. And you also have to find the right fit for your baby. I would recommend the one size BumGenius because it grows with your baby. Different companies have starter packages as well. If you want more information on cloth diapering you can visit some of my favorite sites listed. Till next time!!!
