Island fruits!! Today we visited Uncle Ted at the farm and met up with Auntie Carina and Cheryll, Uncle Daniel, and cousins Oliver and Sadie for a treat. We all helped Uncle Ted pick the ripe ones from the vines.
Even Rachel got in with the picking. The first one she reached for was not ready.
This one's ready to eat! Passion fruit is called "lilikoi" in Hawaiian. I always drink lilikoi juice but I haven't tasted the actual fruit. Today was the day! The first one I ate was pretty sweet. When you cut the fruit open, it smells like guava. The flavor is kind of a cross between a ripe mango with lemon (that's what it tasted like to me anyway).
Rachel dug into it and loved it! I took a few extra to share with my mom and dad. Everyone also had their share and enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing Uncle Ted. Till next time!

Holy Heavens..... I have not plucked and eaten one of those Ono Lilikois in.... YEARS!!!!
